Open toolHow to read the Visa Bulletin
Chart A is the final action date used for visa issuance or final adjustment approval when a number is available.
Chart B is the dates-for-filing chart. USCIS separately announces which chart adjustment applicants may use each month.
Chargeability is usually based on country of birth rather than citizenship or current residence.
Visa Bulletin FAQ
How often is the bulletin updated?
The Department of State generally publishes one Visa Bulletin each month.
Can I file I-485 as soon as my date is earlier?
Not automatically. Confirm the USCIS filing chart and every other eligibility requirement.
What do C and U mean?
C means current. U means unavailable for issuance in that category.
Can a cutoff date move backward?
Yes. Demand and annual visa number usage can cause retrogression.
Is the country column based on citizenship?
It is generally based on country of birth, with limited cross-chargeability rules.
